He began to emulate his new-found hero, Elvis Presley, through his songs.  As he grew, Scott discovered the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, who fueled his curiosity with the performing arts, setting his sights on music. At age 12, he competed in the TV show,America’s Most Talented Kids.  Influenced by his heroes including James Brown, Isbell was seen as a natural on stage.

Why The Need For Funding?

Although federal law requires “free and appropriate” public education for all students, including those with disorders like ADD and/or ADHD, is almost impossible to achieve an ideal environment for every student. However, with programs specifically designed for children with special needs, they can learn and flourish.

The overall goal of any special needs program is to help children progress socially, academically, and personally. Because many special needs kids have had negative experiences and are beaten down psychologically, Hope So Bright wants to be instrumental in providing alternatives that will particularly benefit those that are at-risk, disadvantaged and underserved.

Founder Linda Sanders

Linda Sanders, a second-generation philanthropist, is the Founder and CEO of Hope So Bright, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity foundation, which began in 2012. The organization’s mission is to provide financial support (micro-grants) to other community non-profits that offer programs and services to disadvantaged, underserved and at-risk youth. The current focus for the next several years is to help children living with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism.

Sanders’ ancestors are from Spain and Mexico. Raised in Acapulco in a household with six children, she was an animal and nature enthusiast and aggressive athlete from an early age. Sanders was an independent child, extremely precocious, who fearlessly and meticulously explored her environment. She inherited her mother’s love of nurturing others and her father’s athleticism, culinary skills, and entrepreneurial spirit. Sanders has been a United States citizen since 1981.

Prior to starting Hope So Bright, Sanders was a successful fashion and fitness model and studied interior design, architecture and psychology. Bilingual, a world traveler, and an exemplary role model for her two children, she has always enjoyed a variety of competitive sports, including marathon and ultra-marathon running. Sanders served as a certified Emergency Medical Technician for two years and volunteered for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Manhattan Beach, California, where she resides.

Sanders began Hope So Bright after experiencing two of her family members struggling with the symptoms associated with autism and ADHD. A proponent of cognitive behavioral therapy, she witnessed first-hand how her relatives overcame the symptoms of these learning disabilities through behavior modification as opposed to the use of pharmaceutical drugs.

Sanders has just completed her first documentary film, DESERT AROUND ME, which will debut in America before the close of 2016! She will be showcasing this film in a variety of settings to raise awareness about the ADHD pandemic. DESERT AROUND ME will be available for purchase online through Hope So Bright’s store.

Sanders is already at work on her second documentary, which will pertain to the autism pandemic.

Assemblywoman Gonzalez has passed legislation prohibiting HOAs from fining homeowners for replacing grass lawns with drought resistant landscaping, she created the first workplace bullying training requirement in America, and paved the way for stronger safety standards for high school student athletes by classifying high school cheerleading as a sport. The Kids on the Block is a non-profit educational organization founded in Maryland in 1977 and initially focused on educating schoolchildren about cerebral palsy.  It has since expanded its mission to include education about dozens of disabilities and other differences.

The local San Diego group was founded in 1985 through the effort of a community-minded woman, Mary Felix.  She had a professional background in physical therapy — and a child with a disability — so she was well aware of the social adjustments people with disabilities face daily.

The Kids on the Block of San Diego is an independent IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable agency with the support of volunteer puppeteers and a volunteer Board of Directors. Over 600,000 children in San Diego County have been served by The Kids on the Block programs.
