“This is an opportunity to be doing what I like best, running with friends, and to be, at the same time, contributing positively to another noble cause of this organization. In this case, we are helping to combat ADHD and drawing attention to the importance of physical exercise and healthy eating. I don’t doubt that I should do everything possible to fully integrate myself in this challenge”
Born in the small village of Barcelos, located in the North of Portugal, Carlos Sá started his sports practice after 12 years of being an athlete.
In 2004 he introduced himself to mountaineering, rock climbing, and other challenging athletic activities. Four years later, in 2008, Sá began to run ultramarathons, placing right on the podium!
In 2010 he started to run ultra trail distances over 100 kilometers in prestigious international competitions, particularly in Spain and France.
On April 3rd, 2011 Sá began his love affair with the mythical Marathon des Sables, finishing 8th in the overall standings. He has since run MdS every single year and will run with Team I Run 4 Ultra in 2016 as one of Hope So Bright’s ambassadors to raise ADHD awareness.
Just a few weeks after his first experience at MdS, Sá participated in Ultra Trail Mont-Blanc for the first time as well! He finished 5th in the overall standings.
To add variety to his running resume, Sá chose to run the Badwater ultramarathon on July 16th, 2013 from Southern California’s Death Valley to Mt. Whitney. He ran the 217 kilometers (135 miles) in just 24 hours and 38 minutes.
Excelente iniciativa. Boa sorte para a maratona das areias. Os portugueses estão com o Carlos e com a Hope so Bright.
