Mohamad will be running as a Hope So Bright ambassador at the Grand to Grand Ultra Marathon on September 20th -26th, 2015.
Grand to Grand is a 6 stage, 7-day race that is a self-supported foot race and 170 miles (273 KM). The race to start from the awe inspiring north rim of the Grand Canyon, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and finish on the summit of the Grand Staircase, one of the world’s most iconic geological formations.
Mohamad Ahansal, born 1 January 1973 in Zagora is a Moroccan long-distance runner.
He is 5 times winner of the Marathon des Sables. Like his brother Lahcen Mohamad spent his childhood as a nomad in the Sahara. For him: “education and experiences in the desert are been quite difficult. This is a very hard life, who taught me to fight and persevere. “
Coming from a poor background, he did not have the experience required for the race, and the right equipment to its junction with Patrick Bauer who helped him take his first steps on the Marathon des Sables. Patrick Bauer, Mohamad and his brother were “the treasures of Morocco with true sportsmanship.”
He began to run the Marathon des Sables, when he was about 20 years.
For over 15 years, the two brothers dominate the Marathon des Sables in the alternate winner. In 2002 and 2012, Mohamad and Lahcen have also been decorated by King Mohammed VI of Morocco for their performances in the world on the extreme Marathon.
Beyond its five victories and 10 second places in the Marathon des Sables, Mohamad holds the Guinness World Records title for the fastest crossing of the desert and remained at Podium record of the MDS 16 times out of 19 entries.
