TYPES OF SUPPORT AND CRITERIA
What are Hope So Bright’s funding priorities?
We fund programs that support at-risk, disadvantaged and under-served youth.
Do you provide General Operating or Core Support?
General Operating support can cover administrative expenses. Core support is unrestricted funding that enables an organization to carry out its mission by strengthening organizational capacity and sustainability. It can be used to maintain core programs and essential staff. In both cases, the applicant must show how this support will directly affect programming.
I am a current grantee with an active grant. Can I now apply for another grant?
No. Grantees must complete one grant prior to applying for another. Please note that the Hope So Bright generally does not approve grants to organizations on a continuing annual basis, although exceptions may be made for thee funding of different/new programs.
Does Hope So Bright fund new program development or expansion grants?
Hope So Bright will consider funds for new programs on a limited basis. Priority will be given to existing programs.
What is the maximum grant amount that Hope So Bright funds? What is the range?
We have not established minimum or maximum dollar amounts. However, we are a small foundation with limited funds and seek to support as many programs as possible. The majority of our grants will be under $5,000.
Must we submit an audited financial statement with our application?
Audited financial statements for the most recently completed fiscal year are required of all organizations in existence for more than five years and with operating income of $100,000 or more. Organizations with annual income under $100,000 or new agencies (founded within the last five years) may submit an independent review of their financial statements, completed by a CPA. Please do not submit an application without all of the required attachments, as it will not be processed.
How do we account for in-kind contributions of goods and services on our project budget?
These items and their fair market value should be included in the budget for the program for which you are applying for support. Please indicate if the items are already pledged or received or if you will be seeking them through potential donations.
We can’t decide which of our programs to apply for support. Can we apply for more than one or can you help us decide?
We can’t help you decide. We suggest you choose the program for which you can make the best case for support and/or for which there is the greatest need.
We have a grant request that appears to fit within Hope So Bright’s guidelines. Should we set up a meeting with your organization to present our ideas?
Due to the volume of requests, we are unable to meet with organizations before they submit on online application. As part of the application review process, someone from Hope So Bright may contact you.
Do you conduct site visits to all organizations that have submitted an online application?
As part of our review and decision process, we may choose to conduct a site visit and interview. Only organizations that are seriously being considered for funding will be visited.
May we contact Hope So Bright’s Directors about our proposed project?
Communication with members of our Board of Directors is discouraged.
How do we check on the status of our request?
Please email us at contact@HopeSoBright.org. Please allow at least two months after you apply before contacting us.
What are the reporting requirements for the Regular Grant Program?
Organizations awarded support are expected to report quarterly.
